10 Weeks

Hello there!

-

-

Here’s my 10 week summer update!

-

-

quick review:

1. Get a job.

2. dunk.

3. Get ripped?

4. hang out with people.

-

-

-

Progress?

-

-

1. Still no job

-

-

I have officially abandoned the job search.  Not because I have given up hope or have lost all confidence in myself, but because it’s not really feasible with the amount of time I have left.

-

-

No, I’m not terminally ill, (insert collective sighs of relief)  I mean before I head back to school.

-

-

So… goal number 1 was a huge fail.

-

-

Highlights included sitting through a 45 minute interview where I was asked solely about how often and long I could work for them only to have them never call me again and also getting a postcard from Knott’s Berry farm saying they were going with more qualified applicants.

-

-

Yep.

-

-

2.  Dunk

-

-

I also have abandoned this.

-

-

Every Sunday night I get spanked in basketball by a bunch of 6’2 black guys.  Ask me about this sometime.  It’s kinda crushed my dreams a bit.  It’s also made me realize that no matter how high I jump I will never be black.

-

-

uhh… did I just say that?

-

-

eh.

-

-

Also, I’ve been very lazy about my jump workouts. (If you’re reading this Cody Brown, I apologize.)   Part of this is just normal “i don’t wanna work out today, I’ll eat donuts instead, LULZ”  and part of it is “Oh, Justin Bae has my gym pass.”

-

-

-

Speaking of which, you’ve probably realized that goal 3 is also out the window.

3.

4.  Hang out with people

-

-

Success! (overly encouraging, scattered applause)

-

-

What’s overly encouraging, scattered applause?

-

-

It’s like when you’re at a performance of some sort and the person is really bad.  You know, like you’re at a talent show and a kid is ribbon dancing but he’s really bad?  And he’s also… a he?  So it’s dead silent because everyone feels awkward…  The audience would also love to try to cheer him on… but no one wants to be the lone voice who goes “WHOOO!!!” to start the revolution and get everyone clapping.

-

-

So then he does like… a cartwheel and everyone explodes in applause because he finally did something moderately entertaining.  At the same time, it wasn’t much of an accomplishment, the audience just felt bad because he was failing so miserably so the applause lasts about half a second in total and is pretty scattered.

-

-

Yea, sorta like how I’ve managed to accomplish 25% of my fairly modest summer goals… the one success being that I hung out with my friends?

(which happens to be about as hard as… i don’t know… breathing.)

-

-

But hey, you gotta take what you can get, right?

-

-

In all honesty, I’ve had a great summer so far.  My friends make me super happy.

-

-

Even got to see some Arizona friends and meet some new ones at youth camp this summer which was awesome!  For all those that were there, thank you for being a blessing in my life.

-

-

So then.  That’s my summer at 10 weeks in a nutshell.

-

-

Now let’s get down to the nitty gritty.

-

-

Or, in spanish, “the neeeeeddyyyy greeeeeetyyyy”

-

-

I know there’s been a lot of rumors.

-

-

A lot of… questions…

-

-

And a lot of conspiracy theories.

-

-

About… where my formspring entries have disappeared to.

-

-

I am here to address those rumors.

-

-

In a one hour tv special to be broadcast on ESPN, the proceeds of which will go straight to the Boys & Girls Club of America.

-

-

The truth is, I’ve been busy hanging out with friends and doing summer things so I just haven’t had a real desire to answer formspring questions.

-

-

I’ve answered close to 50 in my signature novel-long format and I think I needed some time off.

-

-

During this… mini sabbatical (except I’m not a pastor and it’s not preaching… so it’s really not like a mini sabbatical at all.)  I’ve done some thinking… about whether or not I want to continue with formspring at all.

-

-

On one hand, it’s cool to have sort of a link between myself and my one reader.  It’s like they ask me a question and I answer it.

-

-

On the other hand, sometimes I don’t really want to answer these questions and be limited to what I’m writing about.

-

-

So. I have reached… a decision.

-

-

You know… we might as well just call it…

-

-

THE DECISION

-

-

Again, proceeds to the Boys & Girls Club of America

-

-

This summer…

-

-

I have decided…

-

-

to take my talents back to formspring.me

-

-

That’s right folks, starting… maybe tomorrow I will once again be answering formspring.me questions.

-

-

So get at me!  I’ve only got 4 or 5 questions in my inbox.  Let’s get this going again.

-

-

Also… for those of you who have persevered through this long, self-bolstering entry, a small gift in return.

-

-

A lot of these “like this status and I will…” statuses have been floating around facebook.

-

-

Some people consider them shameless ploys for much needed affirmation, but hey, we all need some.

-

-

So my offer to you is…

-

-

Like this post on my facebook or through tumblr, and I will write:

a) something I like about you

b) a funny or cool memory I have of you

and

c) either: (at my discretion)

1. which tv or movie character you remind me of

2. what animal you remind me of

3. what ice cream flavor you remind me of

-

-

in my next tumblr. entry.  It’s your chance to be famous!  And also rig the lucky friend lottery.

-

-

-

-

Don’t be bashful!  I’m actually going to like the post myself and affirm… myself also.  If that isn’t a shameless ploy for attention, i don’t know what is.

-

-

Oh, that’s right.  An hour long special about yourself on ESPN the proceeds of which go directly to the Boys & Girls Club of America.
