God and Turkey

So I was helping myself to leftover turkey last night and I was thinking:

How come we don’t eat turkey more often?

-

-

Personally, I think it’s delicious.  You get huge white meat chunks/slices much larger than you would get from a chicken.

-

-

This is because turkeys are larger birds and consequentially have larger breasts.

-

-

I will not comment on this being a general principle of life or not.

-

-

Anyways, I’m sitting there eating turkey and think “man, the world is missing out, we rarely use turkey at all!  Most people only eat it during Thanksgiving and maybe Christmas.  Other than that, the only thing it’s good for is sandwiches.” (Why is that, by the way?  Chicken is used for pretty much everything except lunch meat.  Chicken lunch meat does exist, but is pretty rare.  So strange.)

-

-

So then I do some more thinking and think “Man, is there anything else in the world as wonderful as turkey that people only enjoy twice a year with the exception of sandwiches?”

-

-

Ah yes, there it is.  Church! (or, depending on how you look at it, God)

-

-

-

Some of you are confused. (church sandwich? uh whuuu??)

-

-

It’s not a complete, direct analogy, but hear me out.

(this assumes the given religion is Christianity)

-

-

Outside of a special occasion, we really only rely on turkey for one thing: sandwiches.

-

What a shame! Shouldn’t a meat as delicious and versatile as turkey be used for more than just sandwhiches?

-

Outside of a special occasion, we really only rely on God for one thing: prayer.

-

-

No, not the kind of prayers we should have.

-

-

You know, the kind that are like “Oh God, please let that cute stranger talk to me.”

-

-

Or “Oh God please help me ace this test”

-

-

Or “Oh God please make my pimples go away.”

-

-

Shouldn’t the God of the universe be more dynamic than that?  More than just a magical genie that grants wishes?

-

-

Point two:

-

Turkey is really only enjoyed on two holidays: Thanksgiving and Christmas

-

Why not enjoy turkey more often?  It’s not like food tastes differently on Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We could be enjoying the same food on an ordinary night!

-

-

-A lot of people feel especially obligated to go to church on two holidays: Easter and Christmas

-

-

It’s like those are the two Sundays of the year where if you have any interest in church at all, you’d better be there.

-

-

I think we’re missing out on the other 50 sundays!

-

-

Instead of feeling like the only days where you can really celebrate or enjoy God are Easter and Christmas, why not indulge every single week?

-

-

I’m not trying to be preachy or anything, this is just something that occurred to me last night around midnight while I was eating.

-

-

But seriously, I think we could all use a little more turkey and a little more God in our lives.
