robert - you should preach. would you ever consider being a full time pastor?

So this is kinda weird…
I know nobody really does the whole formspring thing anymore, but I kinda felt like writing and I couldn’t think of an angle, so I thought I’d brush the dust off this old thing.
-
-
Speaking of dust…

How weird is dust? Why does it just… collect in random spots after a long period of time? Why the heck is it gray?! (side note: why are there two spellings of grey?)

-
-
According to Wikipedia… “Dust in homes, offices, and other human environments contains small amounts of plant pollen, human and animal hairs, textile fibers, paper fibres, minerals from outdoor soil, and many other materials which may be found in the local environment
-
-
So… pollen, hair, clothing, hair, and minerals…
-
-
With the exception of certain minerals…those things aren’t gray (grey)! (

-

Ok… I Guess if it was an old person’s home where they were only allowed to wear gray clothing and use grey paper and all the plants were an ugly shade of gray… then I guess maybe the resulting dust would be grey indeed.

Super weird.

So anyways, I’m here on formspring and this question was asked a whole ten months ago!

Somebody could have had a child in that time span!
-
-

Speaking of having children, shout out to Jon and Joan Yee- Congratulations on expecting a baby boy!
-
-

Jon said some very nice things about my blog this past weekend- even comparing my writing style to that of Bill Simmons. For those of you who don’t know, that’s like comparing a basketball player to Michael Jordan, or if you’re into blowing bubbles, this guy

Jon I hope you weren’t just saying those things to be nice and you are in fact reading this, because if you weren’t that’d be really embarrassing.
-
-
-
So then. Let’s get to the question:
-
-
First of all… Pastors are really, really, really dedicated, smart, faithful people.
-
-

I don’t think most people realize just how much schooling goes into the profession, and how challenging it is. Seminary school is basically being told everything you used to believe really isn’t correct, and that your understanding of God and the Bible is pathetically limited.
-
-

Picture it like… you thought you were really good at singing and then you were featured on American Idol as one of the contestants people laugh at.
-
-
I’ve been blessed to receive some basic theology and bible education at my school, and even that is really, really tough. A lot of times, I’ll learn something that makes me question the very foundations of my beliefs. In a lot of ways, it’s easier to just have a child-like faith. The further you delve into theology, the more complicated it becomes… and the more you wish you could just go back to not knowing much at all.
-
-
kinda like how Cypher from the Matrix wants out when he’s having steak with Agent Smith. Sometimes, ignorance really is bliss. (ps that steak looks delicious. So does a lot of movie food in general. The pizza from the ninja turtles movies? WHERE CAN I GET SOME OF THAT?!)
-
-
Yet, Jesus clearly defines the greatest commandment as ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22: 37)
If we’re not constantly seeking truth in God and developing greater theological knowledge, we’re failing in that regard, as challenging as it may be.
-
-
-
So then- Would I ever want to be a pastor?

Yes and no…

On one hand, I really enjoy ministry and studying God and the Bible. I also think I’ve been blessed with some good communication skills.
-
-
At the same time, I really enjoy studying business marketing and would really like to get a job in that field.

So we’ll see.
-
-
Besides, there are tons of other ways to serve God besides vocational ministry. Like… rap and stuff.

Sorry, I just really wanted to plug Trip Lee, so I just kinda threw that in there. On the real though, beat is sick fo sho.
